What is black obsidian?
Black obsidian is born out of fast cooling lava which flows from a volcano. Around since pre-historic times, black obsidian is a protective and energy clearing stone that can be used to ground and shield you from negativity. Here is how we use it and how it can help you.
Where it's from?
Argentina, Canada, Chile, Ecuador, Greece, Guatemala, Hungary, Iceland, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Kenya, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Russia, USA
While this stone is found in many locations worldwide finding the stone in ancient form is uncommon. Obsidian older than a few million years is rare due to the fact that the glass-like rock can be easily destroyed or altered by weathering, heat, or other processes.

How To Use black obsidian
Obsidian is a truth-seeker stone. It is a wonderful stone for shadow work as it brings all of the different angles of yourself to the surface so that you can face them and heal.
You can use your obsidian in your meditation practice, as well as placing it in various places around your home and set the intention for a specific area of your life. Here are some ideas:
Entrance: The main entry way to your home is how energy, people, and opportunities come into both your home and life. Placing your obsidian by your front door can hep give extra protection around what type of energy you're allowing in.
Bedroom: Black obsidian in your bedroom can help with personal protection. This might an especially good choice for placement if you've been feeling ungrounded or anxious, especially when you’re trying to sleep.
Kitchen: If you feel like you need protection around your food and nourishment, or if you feel like you need to protect your resources, try placing black obsidian here.
Workspace: Your workspace represents your work life. Placing your obsidian in this area can be helpful if you're feeling like you need more protective energy in your career.
It’s a good practice to cleanse your stones before placing around your home, using in meditation practice, etc. Obsidian, like most stones, will have had a long journey of being handles, traded, and shipped before arriving in your possession. In doing so you will rid it of any unwanted energy and program it with your very own intention.
There are several different ways to reset your crystals. here are our favorite:
Smudging: Burn and extinguish palo santo, cedar, or sage and hold the stone in the plume of smoke until you feel the negative energy has gone.
Water: Run your stone under flowing water for a few minutes, or place it in salt water overnight. You can then place it in a sunny place to energize it.
Visualization: Imagine a bright golden light surrounding the crystal, with the intention of dissolving any negativity that the crystal is currently holding.
To program the crystal with your intention, you can hold it in your hand and set an intention for what you would like the crystal to help you with.
We love Black obsidian but keep in mind that this stone can and does work to show us our own reflections, including parts that may have been hidden or have gone unacknowledged. This stone shows us our reflections in order to give clarity and make space to heal. If you're feeling like it is bringing up too much, put it away in a drawer or in another room.
Remember, there is no rush in healing and while this stone can help you along and protect you, remember to always go at your own pace.
By showing us a reflection of ourselves, black obsidian give us more clarity around aspects that which are no longer serving us and that which we need to release.
And so it is... or something better.
